Harry Potter Monopoly

I wanted Harry Potter Monopoly, but there is no Harry Potter Monopoly. So I designed and made my own. I don't want to explain the whole process, just look at the pictures. It did take quite a lot of planning, design, and work, so please don't sell it as your own.

The box. (It's a Monopoly box covered with a new design.)

The board.

A close-up of Mr. Monopoly. (Look closely Potter fans.)

Yes, that's the Knight bus as Free Parking.

Azkaban and Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, favorites.

A blue dementor sends you to Azkaban.

The flying Ford Anglia and the Floo Network.

Instead of Community Chest, they're Spell cards.

And instead of Chance, Potions.

Some favorite Spells and Potions cards.

Some property cards close up.

This is the bottom of the box.
The original board design. I had to put that annoying watermark on it because people have been stealing.

  1. Holy crap. This is awesome. And I'm not even a Harry Potter fan. (I'm not saying I hate Harry Potter, I'm just saying I'm not like, oooh, Harry Potter, rah rah rah) But seriously, this is awesome, and I can't figure out if I love you or hate you for spending this much time and effort on it. Probably both.

  7. I used Mod Podge. Just covered the whole thing. I also used it to give the property cards some resilience.

    1. I'm making one of my own and I've created 4 10x10 board squares. Office Depot will print them, mount them on foam board and laminate them. I just have to duct tape them together into a foldable game board. (All for about $20)

  13. @lilybluestocking: I just printed the cards on some orange and yellow paper I found at the craft store. If you (or anyone else) would like printables, I can convert the pieces of my AI file into pdf's to print on your own.

@Margaret Li: I have access to a large format (17" wide) printer at work that I can use if I pay for the materials. I actually printed the board in two pieces. The box printouts both fit on a single sheet of 17x22.

  15. I'm just a random person coming from Pinterest. I'd pay for either someone to do the board or just for the printouts and instructions. Seriously, this would get my daughter completely interesting in playing monopoly! What a great project!

  16. Just another random person stopping in from Pinterest. I also would love to have the printouts for the different parts of the HP monopoly set. I would happily pay you for the files (I can't imagine the ammount of time it took you to make this!) or make a donation to your favorite charity. My kids would flip over this!

  20. There are a lot of files and some are quite large, so rather than send it, I just used a public Google Drive folder. Go to my latest post here: http://designinteched.blogspot.com/2012/07/how-to-make-harry-potter-monopoly.html

  23. I would really love to know how you got the rustic look on the board/box design. You've got it on the property cards as well, however on the PDF's you've supplied (thank you very much for that by the way), they're just blank (no design, just the text). Is this special paper that you printed onto, or is it some Photoshop effect that you created?
I'm sorry to appear to be copying your design, but as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

  24. I've seen your pdfs, they're amazing! I wondered how did you make it in the first place? was it with adobe illustrator? Would you be able to give me or put the files for the adobe illustrator online? I wanted to change the prices of the bits on the board from dollars to galleons!!! Is this possible to do with the illustrator files?

Thank you so much, you're God amongst Harry Potter fans!

    1. You can open the PDF's in Photoshop and then use that to replace the dollars with galleons. That's what I did :). Hardest part was making a galleon symbol that actually looked decent. I replaced the dollar signs on all the 'spells' and 'potion' cards too.

  25. @Denno - for my version, I used a parchment texture in Illustrator, but when I created the PDF's to share, I left it out because I noticed that many Monopoly editions keep the property cards unaffected by the theme. It would also allow people to get fancy paper if they wanted.

@Layth - you can open the PDF files in Illustrator and they should be fully editable.

As for the galleons thing, I intended to use galleons and print my own money, but I simply ran out of time. If I ever get around to it, I'll share what I come up with.

  26. Gosh you are brilliant! I've been looking for this for a while and you're right, people have indeed been stealing it and saying there's really a Harry Potter Edition Monopoly, I think you should pitch your idea to Hasbro! You've done great!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Amazing. But honestly, why don't you sell it? You can make a fortune!

  28. Hi! I just wanted to say thank you so much for all the files! I blogged about it and made sure to link and credit you! :D

  30. I hate Monopoly, but this is one Monopoly I would pay for.

  31. I realise I'm a little late to the party but I second all the comments...I would pay for this. You should market it to MB. This version is the best online I've seen!
